LAND COURT.

(1) Mr. Moore was appointed "Demarcation Officer" on the 30th November 1900 and Mr. Mackie, who also acted as Demarcation Officer, was appointed to act as Registrar of the Land Court on the 21st August, 1901, in which post Mr. Gomperts recommended that he should draw an additional $25 monthly. His Excellency approved and on the suggestion of Mr. Gomperts, the salary of Mr. Moore, who was of the same standing as Mr. Mackie and had done good work for the Land Court, was raised to the same figure. Both these officers, therefore, have been placed on the Estimates of the Land Court instead of appearing as formerly on those of the Registrar General's Office.

(2) 2nd Clerk and Hakka Interpreter, Assistant Clerk to Chief Clerk. The Hakka Interpreter resigned from the 28th February last. Leung Wei Chun was appointed to the vacancy, on the recommendation of Mr. Gomperts, at a salary of $35 + $10 travelling allowance. As the last holder of the appointment drew $70 + $10 travelling allowance, $35 a month became available and for this sum Lok Shan, then working temporarily as clerk in the Treasury, was engaged as temporary Assistant to the Chief Clerk.

(3) Demarcators and Coolies. When the Survey Staff increased, it became necessary to increase the demarcation staff working with it from 21 demarcators and 66 coolies to 49 demarcators and 140 coolies.
